Arc Online mainly monitors web sites to make sure that you are getting the best out of what your offering, but we design sites as well.
We advise on how to make your site more attractive to your visitors and improve the number of visitors that "buy in" to what your selling, whether it's a product, a service or just information about your or something else.
We provide a complete service from hosting, to design, monitoring, blog design, optimisation for Google, Yahoo and BING.
If you already have a web site we can help you to make better use of it by monitoring what your visitors are doing and provide you with advise on how to make it perform better.
Our whole aim is to make your web site work better for you and increase the number of visitors who take action on whatever you are selling.
You only have one chance to make a first impression and visitors take from 6 to 8 seconds making it, we help the first impression be a good one.
I started in Computing when the mainframe had 10% of the useful memory that’s now in my mobile phone, and it filled a whole room.
I have progressed through systems analysis, business analysis, project management and programme management eventually managing the whole of the Retail systems conversion for the Millennium for the UK rail industry.
So what’s this got to do with Websites?
In 2002 while working for the rail industry I identified that they could save £3M by transferring their retail instructions, how to sell tickets and give refunds and other information, to a website. After lots of to-ing and fro-ing they could not decide to it as a whole industry but left it up to each rail company to do their own thing. Arc Online developed the website sold it to 10 rail companies and the National Rail Enquiries team for use in their call centres. We have managed the site for the last 8 years and I have seen it through a number of redesigns that were needed due to the different type of staff who needed to use the information.
The most important redesign was to cater for the move of the call centres from UK to India. This required a complete revamp of the navigation and the search engine. The Indian staff had very little knowledge of the details we held and we had to meet the dual requirement of providing information accurately and quickly in order to satisfy the callers.
The redesign called for us to monitor what was being accessed and change the navigation to make it easier for the advisors to find what they needed, we added links from one page to another beefed up the search engine and installed an optimised set of keywords. This was quite a task give that we held over 300,000 pieces of information.
I am now bringing the knowledge of managing this large information site to the benefit of SME’s.
