About Matthew Rennison

I mainly come from a lifeguarding background (and yes, I've worn the red shorts in America, before anyone goes there!), worked in many sports centres and gyms as both a Lifeguard and a Fitness Intructor.

In 2003 I graduated from Leeds Met University with a degree in Sports Development, following this I completed a PGCE with Huddersfield University and started to teach. At this time, I was also assisting with the teaching of Basic Life Support in Clinical environments.

I then moved back to Leeds from the North East (Darlington is my home town), and I worked on the doors of Leeds as a "Door Supervisor", which you can imagine presented a few tricky situations.  I was doing this at the time of starting a day job with the British Red Cross managing the First Aid Training to the community across the whole of Yorkshire, relying on a dedicated band of volunteers.

I did this for a couple of years, before organisational politics came in the way, and I decided to split from being employed.  I made "the jump" i believe it's called.  So in October 2006 I became Self-employed, and opened a training organisation called M.R. Training Services, specialising in First Aid.

Since then, we have branched out into a variety of topics, all banding around the Health & Safety domain.  Recently we have re-branded, becoming M.R. Safety Training and whilst delivering other topics like Food Hygiene, Health & Safety, Fire Safety, Manual Handling & Infection Control, my 2nd passion stays with First Aid.  And I always stress it is best to be trained by someone who not only teaches it, but does it in real life and can answer the questions not in the book.  Because as my fellow 4N colleagues will tell you, life isn't a book, and alot of First Aid is knowing how to improvise and adapt.

If you want to know what my first passion is, it's corny, but yes, it's my family along with my little boy.  And i'm there, with the other parents running a business at the same time, it's hard, but well worth it.

So, that's me.

I'll look forward to meeting you at 4N meetings

Until then, stay safe, and should anyone have any questions , please don't hesitate to contact me.

Matt
