Young Sounds started life as an independent record production company, specialising in music for children, intended for use in music education. It quickly diversified into the training sector when Julian Field realised his knowledge of music production and the associated software and hardware had greater value than the music itself! Today, the business is essentially an umbrella company for Julian's various activities, including that of being an Apple Certified Trainer for Logic Pro music software and an Authorised Distributor for The Utility Warehouse Discount Club. He is looking to move further into software training, being an expert 3D artist and procedural animator, using Cinema 4D software.
Julian Field is very much a man of portfolio, having started his working life in light industry, as sheet metal fabricator and welder. He did this for eight years full time, before taking the plunge and starting his own business in the autumn of 1995. He has always been passionate about the arts, having been a performer since the tender age of 7. Shortly after starting Young Sounds, he began what was to be a thirteen year expedition, into the acting profession, working on various TV and film productions, including a 6 week stint with Steve Coogan, David Walliams and a few others whom are now household names, on a movie entitled, Cruise of The Gods. He also appeared as a juggling farmer in Born and Bread, and spent two days getting soaked, whilst working on a car commercial, featuring a breakdancing, Gene Kelly! Julian now regards himself as retired from acting, but remains a member of Equity and though a return looks unlikely, would never completely rule it out.
He spent four, very happy, years as an Advisor for The New Deal for Musicians', which was very much a mentoring role, involving working with unemployed musicians, looking to break into the industry. Following this, he went on to teach fabrication and welding in an FE college for almost five years. In more recent times, he has trained as a roving Health and Safety rep, for the Musicians' Union, having been a member since 1991. He also sits on both the East/South East Regional Committee and The Writers' Section Committee.
Aside from acting, Julian is constantly involved with songwriting and record production, within his own recording studio - a work in progess for over 25 years. To date, he has produced four rock albums, including his latest work, These Moddern Times, under the guise of his alter ego, The Unknown. He is currently in the process of writing album number five and all of his work is available to listen to online, at the soundcloud website (www.soundcloud.com/the-unknown-1). Over the years, Julian has also produced a number of works for other artists, including voice demos for actors.
His third artisic pursuit, is that of 3D art and animation, something he first discovered in the late 80s, on the Atari ST. Nowadays, he uses Cinema 4D on the Apple Mac, an application he has been using for around 15 years. He has expert knowledge, particularly with regard to procedural animation and dynamic simulations, mechanical modelling and engineering. His ultimate goal is to combine record production, 3D animation and live action footage, to create visually stunning music videos. It is only a matter of time.
Finally, Julian is always interested in anyone with a passion for what they do - regardless of what it is! He is personable and a has great sense of humour, so if you chance to have a chat, please be sure to do so. He enjoys films, music (no surprise there, then), reading, fencing, cycling, walking and juggling.
Think that just about covers it...
