About Mel Northfield
Mel is a commercially astute and strategic Senior Executive with over 30 years experience in the field of Human Resources, and latterly as a Chief Operating Officer. The majority of his experience (over 24 years) has been within the financial services sector, including 10 years as Head of Human Resources for two large international businesses, and 3 years as COO. Mel is a highly regarded, talented and pragmatic leader, and trusted adviser to senior management. He has substantial expertise in the full range of HR specialisations as well as in starting and running a small international business. He has a proven track record of directing, managing and delivering strategic organisational change on an international stage, including business start-ups and ramp-ups, mergers, re-structuring and outsourcing (involving all aspects of TUPE), as well as successfully running efficient and effective ‘business as usual’ operations, and directing large scale projects. Mel has undertaken a variety of roles within Human Resources from HR Generalist/Business Partner for a variety of client groups, Head of Learning and Development, Global Head of Compensation and Benefits and HR Director. His previous work experience has spanned manufacturing, local government, the oil and gas industry, and financial services. He was most recently part of a management team that set up a new business within Kleinwort Benson, where he was Chief Operating Officer for that business line. He is now running his own human resources and business consultancy, Sherington Consulting Limited, where his recent clients include a Charity, a Land Surveying and Planning Consultancy, a specialist Public Services Consultancy and a Financial Services Brokerage House. Mel holds a BA (hons) in Business Studies and a Masters Degree in Human Resource Management, and has been a fully qualified member of the CIPD since 1986. Mel also successfully passed the Strategic Management Programme at Ashridge in 1998.
