Adwords - Are they worth it?
Adwords to many people are a mystery and yet to those who know them and use them wisely they are a very cost-effective sales generation tool. So what are Adwords?
Adwords are a way to advertise your services in the Google search engine. When a person searches under a particular phrase, if your AdWords campaign is set up for that phrase then it will be displayed along side the natural search results generated by Google. If the person searching is interested in what you have to say in your Adwords they may click through on the advertisement and arrive at your website. You now have a visitor at your website that is looking for just the types of products or services that you provide.
You will only pay a pre-set amount for each click through you receives from each visitor to your website. The more you are willing to pay the greater the visibility of your website in the Google search results for the chosen keywords. Each visitor may turn out to be your next customer.
It all sounds so straight forward but it only really works if you have it set up correctly. If done incorrectly it can be very costly and you may well not generate any sales through it. However for those who have it set up well it can be one of the most cost-effective forms of advertising a company can use generating significantly returns relative to the advertising cost.
So where do you start?
Well, you must know what phrases people actually search on related to your services or products. There is no point including phrase related to your services if people don’t search on it on Google. For example, everyday there are on average 30 searches for “solicitors oxford” but only 3 searches for “oxford solicitors”. If you use the wrong phrases you may well be missing a large part of your potential target audience.
You must also work out how much you want to pay for each click through to optimise your return. The more popular phrases may be more expensive but certain phrases can generate a large number of searches and yet be relatively cheap and have only minimal competition.
The wording in your Adwords is restricted so you have to really think about what you need to say. It has to be effective to attract the visitor, relevant to your website and stimulate their interest so that they click through to arrive at your website.
Finally, the website then has to satisfy their requirements to get the visitor who has clicked through to commit to the action that you need. Once at your website you may want them to buy online, complete a form or just contact you.
An Adwords campaign is an incredible powerful marketing tool that for some businesses generates the vast majority of their sales. The AdWords campaign also gives your company targeted and measureable advertising results. You can see what works and what doesn’t, where visitors come from and just how much each Adwords campaign costs. If you thing it looks daunting then it can be set up and managed for you by experts who do this for a whole range of companies every single day.
