How to make you do what I want you to do

I want you to subscribe to '4Cast' the 4N podcast rather than just 'listen' to it.

What's the difference, Sammu?
When you subscribe, you tell a piece of software to check automatically for you when the next thrilling edition of 4Cast is out, and then to download it for you.  The file will then sit there waiting for you to either listen to it at your computer or put it on your mp3 player to take with you on your car journey to work, your bike ride in the country or that long, boring plane trip on business.

Just 'listening' to a file means you play it in a browser window while you're sitting at your computer.

What's in it for me to subscribe?
You can switch your brain off (useful when listening to 4Cast) and let your iTunes or similar go get the file every time we put a new one on the server.

So its easy.  And it encourages you to listen to the file other places than in front of the computer - which is what's best about podcasting.. honestly.

What's in it for you when I subscribe?
We get to know who our 'regular' listeners are so that we can get a sense of who is part of the 4Cast thang... You see, podcasting is about YOU shaping what happens, too - so it's useful to know how many of YOU there are.

Total number of downloads isn't really that interesting a statistic for podcasting because that figure could be made up of anyone - including guests passing through the 4N site.

What do I have to do to subscribe
Just go to www.4n4cast.co.uk (the show page) and click on the 'subscribe in iTunes' button.  iTunes is both Mac and PC software and it's worth getting it if you haven't.  It gives you access to iTunes store where you can either buy music or, better yet, listen to loads of free podcasts on any subject you can imagine.

Look, I've read this far and I still don't get this podcast business
Honestly.  Let me put it like this:

An unlimited amount of factual, funny and entertaining material available for you to download and listen to anytime, anyplace, anywhere (Martini ad from the 1970s).

Fill your dead time with fantastic things to learn!
Replace your company training documents with podcasts, saving tens of thousands of pounds in paper and printing - and letting people choose WHEN they learn the stuff!

Oh, and talk to people who might feel more like buying from you when they feel more like they know you.
