Ten Simple Telemarketing Tips
Ten Simple Telemarketing Tips From Symmetry Marketing Ltd
- Decide what the minimum and maximum you will except from the call is. Maximum perhaps being an appointment or sale the minimum perhaps the correct contact name. This means no call is ‘wasted’.
- Make it easy for yourself by having your key strengths, companies you work for and the benefits of your service written down clearly where you can quickly see them.
- Don’t eat or drink on a call. It sounds obvious but people can hear it and it is VERY audible.
- Be honest in your introduction. Make a clear introduction that includes your name and your company name and explain it is a sales call and tell them you want to explain a little about the product and service(s) your company has to offer and establish whether they would have an interest in taking it further. In my experience being honest about the call means most people will allow you to talk with them.
- Don’t lead yourself into a yes or no Q&A initially, try asking open ended questions. These are the ones that begin WHAT, WHY, WHEN, HOW, WHERE, WHO and as the call progresses funnel it to a “yes” to the appointment!..
- Don’t feel overly tempted to fill silences when a question has been asked. Let the prospect think and don’t get trapped into rambling.
- Do not try and tell a prospect everything about your company as they will probably not want to know. Keep it relevant and specific to what they may need from you.
- Buying signals are there even when you do not think they are i.e. “not interested at the moment” “Not looking for quite that type of product" ... "not the person dealing with it" .... Dealing with what? What type of product would they like? And when will they be interested?
- Always listen and do not interrupt. When you are closing the call summarise what has been agreed and the course of action that will subsequently follow.
- People will respond better to you if you try and match the way you communicate to the other person. Do not overwhelm but equally don’t underwhelm!
