I feel it's a bonus if you can find a like minded company to work with.
Being sustainably minded myself and also offering a 'sustainable' product I feel it is beneficial if I can work with businesses in complementary fields, as we can recommend each others products and services and hence offer our customers added value by looking beyond our own immediate specialism.
Ultimately, the customer benefits because his needs and requirements are being addressed; you, as the recommender benefits because you are seen to be proactive and are helping the client; and the like minded company you have recommended benefits too. Everyone's happy!

Like others, I too feel an important area of business growth is to develop synergies in our professional life with our ethics and views on the world we live in. Working with people we have empathy with is so much easier with customers and the who supply chain benefitting.

I echo all the good things everyone has said above.
I particularly like the Win:Win:Win senario that Nigel has painted.
With all the work that I do, I try and ensure Win:Win:Win senario is possible.
