I have just joined 4N and have opted for the Free membership in order to see what it's all about.  I have received a couple of PMs but when I try to reply I am 'told' that I cannot send PMs.   I thought I have up to 5 PM's a day on this type of account

You will eventually be able to - just carry on taking part on the site - the delay is intentional.
