We know exactley where every untaxed car is located among the millions of car owners in the UK,but we haven't got a f.....g clue where thousands of illegal immigrants & terrorists are located!! Why doesn't Gordon Brown put the f.....g DVLA in charge of immigration??

Because we'd all have to walk round with some kind of "Tax Disc" glued to our heads for CCTV to monitor and cross reference our movements against a great big computer database??

I am not taking sides but "thousands of illegal immigrants" do the jobs we as a nation really don't want to do - poor pay, manual labour outdoors and in all weather. They have none to few rights and likely live in less than appealing conditions because only the unscrupulous will take them in. They are not in a position to complain about having wages withheld and if they report their illegal employer they are likely deported from the country....

The illegal immigrants that come here to take the piss out of the British Welfare system costing us millions thats another matter... but I've no gripe with anyone that wants to work hard and pay their way

Maybe the jobs are low paid, in bad conditions and have pay witheld BECAUSE they done by illegals? If citizens with rights were needed to do them maybe the pay and conditions would have to be acceptable?

Another way to look at it is that thousands of brits bugger of to countries where they think life will be better every year.  Yet because we are british we have to do it by the book and we get bugger all perks, basically due to the fact that our country has an economy (for how long, who knows?).  We still do it though and i wouldn't want to be stopped.

Like Darren said lots of big business is based on the cost of it's labour force, many wouldn't be viable if it wasn't for oversea's labour...illegal or not!

Many brits just won't bother working for minimum wage.

I am only British by coincidence of geography, I didn't choose to be, there was no master plan.  I am proud of being me, but British isn't an instrinsic part of that.  I used to like Britain more than I do now, but I have never been proud of it.

Karen, That is so spot on!

Like you, I have never felt there is anything intrinsically wonderful about nationality. It won't however, stop me supporting the footy team, but it certainly won't make me want to stay here when my long-term plans will have me living in The Philippines.

I agree. I refuse to be defined by where I live.  I quite like the bit of Britain where I live, but much about Britain does my head in!  And it certainly is not guarunteed to feature in my retirement plans!

'They' should pick up england and move it to somewhere like just off the coast of Southern Spain then we'd at least get decent weather.
