A footballer's apparent dedication of a goal to a fellow player who was jailed for killing two boys while driving drunk has provoked anger.

Ipswich midfielder David Norris made a handcuffed wrists gesture to goalkeeper Luke McCormick after scoring the winning goal against Blackpool on Saturday.
McCormick is serving seven years over the deaths of 10-year-old Arron Peak and his eight-year-old brother Ben.
The brothers, from Partington in Manchester, were killed when McCormick's black 4x4 ploughed into their car at 100mph on the M6 in Staffordshire on June 7.
Experts said the goalkeeper was "at best semi-conscious" after drinking all night.
The 25-year-old, a former England youth international, pleaded guilty to causing their deaths by dangerous driving and to drink driving.
Earlier this year, Premier League star Tim Cahill apologised for a 'handcuffs' goal celebration aimed at his brother who is in jail for a vicious attack.
The Everton midfielder marked his shot against Portsmouth in March by pretending his wrists were chained.

After the weekend match, Norris defended his own gesture.
"It wasn't a handcuff sign, it was a private message, but I can see how people might have seen it like that and I apologise wholeheartedly if it has caused any offence," he said.
"Luke is a good friend of mine and I have told him I will visit him in prison, but he made a massive mistake and he is rightly paying the price for it."

However, Amanda Peak, the mother of the two dead boys, told the Daily Mirror that she was "disgusted" with Norris.
"To celebrate a goal like that is disrespectful to me and my husband and my boys. He should be given a ban by his club," she said.
"Norris is doing this in front of thousands of supporters, including children, and sending out the wrong message that we can drink and drive and it's okay to kill someone."

Private message? In front of all those people?
I hate it as well when people in the public eye are pulled up for doing things like this and then say they are 'wholeheartedly sorry' Their apology, one that has been forced by their managers/pr team etc really doesn't mean anything at all.

Just proves the comments in the other posts... footballers are chavs - and normally thick and badly behaved too - although I know some lovely former footballers who don't fit this bill!

You know rugby and footy players? What's your secret?
Unfair to say 'footballers are chavs' okay some are knob heads, but I know some knobber solicitors.
I have never known a solicitor to inspire a child and if they have, it's in the minority.
But while we are all casting the 'chav' thing about, you know it's a long hard road for footballers to become professional, it takes real dedication, lots of set backs and a strong resilience to carry on, however, they aren't 'professional' and 'educated'.
They have probably only dreamt, slept, kicked a ball to perfect their skill till their parents had to drag them in out of the dark, had knock back after knock back over a period of ummmm 12 years, if they were VERY lucky, had people they play against try with all their might to end their career before it's begun (Girls if you think we are bitches, try watching a kids footy team when a scout is in the mix)
Professional people more often than not are probably fulfilling their parents dreams and are frankly fucking boring, I mean, who wants to be a doctor?
Footballer with passion vs doctor coz I was good at science

There's a lot of jealousy of footy players as they can earn loads, while often not having a lot of academic prowess. This exhibits itself by people calling them chavs quite a lot.
If a professional person had wanted to show his love for this dipshit, he wouldn't have such a large audience and be so badly advised. Anyway's fuck it, his actions were stupid - but to suggest that all his peers are because of what he did is equally so.
Is it handsome in here, or is it just me?

I think it was completely stupid, and I for one call for David Norris to be immediately transferred back to Plymouth and we get our money back (as he's shite).
On an aside, Amanda Peak is adamant to become the new Stephen Lawrence's Dad, isn't she? I know what she went through was absolutely unthinkably horrible, but she's really using the media in ways I don't personally think I would do if I were (God forbid) in her position.

Gonna have to disagree with you there Flip. I think that if she can do anything to make people stop and think before speeding, driving like a Di*k and drink driving then she should. Also ploughing herself into raising awareness probably takes her mind off the fact that she has lost her two beloved son's for a little bit of each day. Which is probably just about keeping her sane!
If one person lowers their speed on their way home or calls a taxi instead of driving drunk because of her use of the media then brilliant. I would rather she her on the front of a news paper rather than Amy "be a crackhead drunk like me" Winehouse.

But isn't it a little naive to think that the point will get across to people who don't/will never give a shit?
I agree it's keeping her sane and whatever works for her is ok by me, but the fact still remains, there are people in society who dont care and never will and no amounts of coffee and chatting to Phil and Fearne is going to make a difference.

I guess I've read more things about this woman. Praps I'm being unfair, and I can't really sympathise as I have no idea what I'd do in her position - probably do a Boris.
But some of the stories she's had published - in woman's magazines, no less - aren't doing anything other than playing on the public perception of footballers as spoilt, rich babies (not denying this may be true) and demonizing the poor sod who, if he wasn't a pro footballer at the time, would've been able to annonymously serve his time and reflect on what he'd done, as horrible as that was and which is no doubt haunting him, without having the accompanying media shitstorm.
Norris is a tit though.

I don't read 'womens' magazines but I have to agree, I don't think I would be able to function if, God forbid I lost Axel and Amelia under those circumstances, I would really be to busy hanging on in there trying to keep my sanity and to be honest, the person that robbed me of my kids, I wouldn't give a flying f**k what he did for a job. However, it's media influence yet again and ffs how bloodthirsty are they?
