And Manchester and everywhere else to be fair. Well hardcore... If I was in London now with my kids at their ages, I'd be off. I wouldn't be strolling round with my ipod and phone anyway, and would be thinking of building a moat. I blame immigation/the welfare state/knives/rap music. We should lockthem all up/kill them/send them to center parks/give them citizenshiplessons/send them back and ban knive/guns/video games/music/foriegners.This would never have hapened in 1950/it's only going to get worse/I'mmoving to north korea/it's better in Canada.
Right, that's that topic finished then.

Sadly it's not just in the big cities anymore. Somehow the idea that stabbing someone might have a negative consequence seems to have been pushed aside completely. Madness.......

Boris, Every time I read one of your posts you have me laughing. I remember speaking to a policeman in New York over ten years ago. He said at the time that knife crime in the UK will get out of hand. His logic was they are easier to get hold of and they are more likely to be used as they are not considered as deadly as guns. I believe that there has been zero tolerance in NY and crime has gone down. Maybe if we got the Police here chasing real crimes and adopting a zero tolerance policy we might be able to reduce crime as well. The problem is bleeding heart liberals worried about human rights etc.... and the fact the old Bill dont get off their arses to stop real crime and go for easy targets instead.

Oh Ashley. You do dissappoint me. I was with you all the way there until you had a go at the police. It is not the police you need to have a go at but the governement who makes the crappy policies. The police force is being seriously diluted by the increasing recruitment of PCSOs in place of ordinary constables. In addition the ordinary constables would be out doing more were it not for the mountain of paperwork that each arrest requires. I know officers who are frequently practically deskbound by paperwork for days on end! Many officers I know agree that there shuld be zero tolerance but how do you enforce it with so few officers? You can't.

I'm sick of the pigs round here, is it just here or a countrywide thing? - They seem to be government operatives sent to make you feel uneasy instead of upholders of the law now. All of a sudden they hang round in packs with cameras strapped to their heads handing out fixed penalties for those caught littering or putting their feet on seats. Organised and violent crime is too tough, so just deal with everyday indiscretions to boost targets. It's utter crap.

Michael, my sister is in the police and it seems the directive is to go for soft crimes I would love to see a tough stance on crime in this country, but I feel if there were more police the only thing that would increase is the amount of speeders that get caught. I never had much faith in the police and that is at an all time low now. I do agree that legislation is dreadful.. which goes back to bleeding heart liberals. There is no deterent against crime in this country as the punishment is so lenient. I would be all for capital punishment, at least it would free up space in the prisons.

On the personal freedoms thing, Orwell said in 1984: '"the future of mankind? think of a jackboot stamping a human face; forever' - the analogy would be that it's not so much a boot in the face but an ever more insistent foot in the door.

I can remember in my teens that a local area was known for people carrying knives and I avoided it. I find it all very scary.
