I have just brought something on ebay which quite clearly is a fake (and a bad one at that), and just had this verified by an original retailer.

Since I rarely buy from ebay I have no idea of the complaints procedure.  Should I tell the seller that I want my money back since the item is not genuine?

I have alerted ebay and paypal and I am awaiting their reply.

Always report to ebay and paypal, then send a message to the seller. I had a similar experience and ebay were very quick to get back to me. I did get money refunded by paypal but it took about 3 weeks. The seller was kicked off ebay.  I assume that the description of the article was that it was genuine

Yes Kim it was described as genuine.  So you think that I should contact the seller then?  I hope he is not a hoodie!!!!

Give him hell!

Well no--respectfully point out that the item appears to be not genuine--and that you have verified this. Offer him the chance of giving you a refund.

I bought an item off e-bay that proved to be fake, contacted Trading Standards and was advised to drop any complaints - quickly.  Seller was from Northern Ireland and according to TS were organised gangs

My advice is,

Don't  buy anything else from eBay.

Hope that helps.

Definitely get back to the seller and ask for a refund. Otherwise you will have to give negative feedback and that is a bit of a killer for an eBayer as a lot of them rely on good feedback scores. The seller is not permitted to leave you negative feedback in return. Did you check out the feedback score before bidding? I recommend that you take a moment to look at negative feedback before going anywhere near and beware any scores lower than 90%. Having said that some virgin eBayers leave negative feedback just because something doesn't fit - that's not fair!!

Log on to ebay then select 'My eBay' in the top right hand corner. Scroll down and on the far left hand side you will see a section headed 'Shortcuts'. Select 'Dispute Console' and a new ebay window will appear. Finally select 'Report a Problem with an Item' and this will guide you through the formal ebay dispute process. Please call me if I can help as have been using ebay for 5 years and know my way around their procedures.

Good luck !

I got ripped off a few times on Ebay, its more costly for me to waste time trying to get it fixed than the item is worth usually.

Classic rip off was an Mp3 player sent to me with no guts inside. When I complained they said send it back and they would send me another. What they meant was spend more money and time posting it back so they could sell it again to another sucker.

Just heard from the seller who has offered me a full refund.  Am sending the item back today, but did lodge a complaint with both paypal and ebay.  I doubt he will be sending back the cost of the postal though!
