This week my business Expertise on Tap celebrates its first birthday
Back in July-07 I had one client. Like many others before me, I was wondering when and where the rest were going to come from.
Fast forward to July-08 and I've got a few more than just one client and this could not have been achieved without 4N. I don't just mean the team at 4NHQ, but also the group and area leadership teams + the hundreds of people I've met at 4N meetings. Some of them have become clients and collaborators, others have become trusted colleagues and friends.
As I said at 4N Cheltenham this morning, you don't just pay your annual fee and wait for something to happen. With 4N, just like most things, you get out what you put in. My 3-point plan has been...
(1) Travel - you've got a passport so use it. OK petrol's not cheap but for example if you're in Cheltenham and visit a group in Bristol you're immediately exposed not just to Bristol 4Ners but also businesses from Wilts, South Wales, Monmouthshire, Somerset and more. Your petrol costs could pay back many times over.
(2) Use the forum and be generous. Don't just ask for help but look for opportunities to provide help as well. People will remember that and even if they never buy anything off you they'll refer you to others.
(3) Use the power of 4Sight Slots. It's a great way to build your brand and it's easy. All you've got to do is email the group leaders within say a 50 mile radius and within days that's your 4Sight Tour organised.

Happy Birthday Julian. I totally agree with what you say. It was our 2nd birthday this week and I wish I'd found 4N sooner and since having a passport I've made use of it to get to places I don't think I would even thought of going to.

If we do cop for a recession, businesses within the network have got a whole greater chance of coming out the other end than those outside. Long may your growth continue J.
I've been hearing some amazing 4N stories and sound bites over the last couple of weeks.
- 60k ad sales in 3 months for one 4Ner.
- 41% increase in turnover as a direct result of 4N
- 93 new clients in 5 months from 4N
It really is a case of using the network effectively, that involves as Julian says helping people where possible, making a positive difference, being yourself and also taking personal responsibility for the outcomes, positive and negativly. The 3 bullet points above are as a result of the members 'working' the system. Now equally there will be members for whom "4N isn't working".
To those members I'd say, Its not the platform that needs tweaking. Its your approach or business.
