Occassionally people ask, can i send a sub when i can't make it.
At 4N we network 4times a week, around your schedule.
So there are no subsitutes as you can't subsitute a relationship.
The badge holder is the member, we have no subs in 4N. But obviosuly anyone else can visit 3 times.

That poses an interesting qusetion as to WHY people are asking the question?
Is there a misconception somewhere as to what meeting attendance is about? Even if I could, I would never WANT to send a sub. Better to be missed than to disappoint by sending an inferior product!

January 4N Member Offers:
"DB&B for the price of B&B" or "Dinner for 2 with Free Wine" Click here for details
A Hotel for Business or Pleasure (but better for BOTH!)

I used to sub @ BNI and I just couldn't see it, me pretending to be someone else just didn't work. I was also concerned about the 'professional subs' at BNI who never actually join, but keep turning up as subs, I don't get how that is fair on the paying members.
Rant over. I like the fact that 4N is clear. If you're in the room, you've either paid for membership or on one of your 3 free visits.

Looking back to last year I was unwittingly becoming a professional sub. Having been as a visitor I hadn't joined, but on three occasions different people asked me to sub. I thought "Hmm, free breakfast, free networking" sounds good. In reality I got nothing out of it.
On the 3rd occasion I gave some constructive feedback to a committee member about visitors/subs only getting 30* secs when full members get 60 and how it wasn't a great way to entice potential paying customers. Have not been asked back.
*I'm told it's usually 60 secs but at Cheltenham it's 30 for some reason.

Yes, I've been tempted to the dark side by completely free (even breakfast paid for) subbing at local BNI. Every 3 months or so a pleading BNIer, with real panic and fear in their voice says how they desparately need a sub for tomorrow's meeting. Each time I've done the favour I'm reminded why I won't do it again (and whatever the pleading, I really won't do it again now)
You really are made to feel like a second-class outsider, entering a club you're not a member of, and pretty much ignored (or perhaps it's just me...)
So, subbing, rubbish idea

I have just come from the dark side, where getting a sub in was a waste of time (IMHO)
Good News with 4N is that when I changed jobs (and industry), it got very stuffy and dificult when it needn't have done but 4N accepted the change with no problems at all. Save for getting a new badge that is, but that's another story in itself......
(1) "Members Rule" or (2) Membership Committees Rule - which would you prefer?

Oh Yes Brad
Long (and contentious!) story
There will be an ever increasing number of BNI Members who become Cartel Reps and are not allowed to promote their businesses. Fair enough; rules is rules. But to change mid-term from their original long-standing business to Cartel requires approval from the Membership Committee, which has not been forthcoming. Maybe there's an anti-Cartel cartel present!
My experiences have resulted in me promoting 4N over BNI to all prospective Networkers, especially Cartel Reps. I also believe that there's more than enough potential business out there for several people in the same industry to be working together, which of course you can do in 4N, unlike BNI
