Hello,

I was meant to call them last week to find out more however I ended up having a couple of crisis' and I never got around to it. Plan to call them this week but wondered if anyone here had any more information about Train2Gain - mainly if anyone here has ever done it?

Client I work with does lots of it - my warning - make sure you get what you want, a lot of suppliers/facilitators are just in the game to tick an output to get the funding

Essentially this is government funded training (at least in part) targeted at identified groups.  Who the group is varies from time to time.

It is co-ordinated on a regional basis and the quality depends greatly on how they view it, and on the quality of the training providers they are able to line up.

Conceptually, it is a great idea.  In practise it varies.  For example, some of the reskilling training is aimed at people way below you experience level Liz.  And Graham is right, some of it is box ticking.  Investigate with caution, I would say, and establish clearly the groups for which it is aimed, because if you are not in one of them it may miss the mark by a lot.

Thank you, both of you!

Basically, There's a course I want to do and I was trying to see if I can get any help paying for it. So, I think now the best option is just paying it outright myself by getting a loan? xxx

If you have spotted a course that is right for you, and you can get Train3Gain to pay for it..you should go for it....

But are they likely to do so given the fact I don't have a business? But intend to use that course in order to help me set up my own? x

They might actually.  It will depend a bit on what your business will be, and when it will start.

Approach them and ask.  They, and business link, have a range of options for start ups, and it is worth at least investing the time in a chat.

I did a 10 week night school course at the local college on Photoshop. Train 2 Gain paid 50%. If you need the course then get their help. You have to attend a min of (I think) 60% of the course to qualify.

Does it have to be an actual 'at college' course? or can it be distance learning? x

Hi,

So I called this morning and basically they can't help me as I don't already have my business set up. Anyone any other suggestions? Or shall I just set the business up? If you think setting up the business is the best option, anyone any tips on how I do that?!

So many options for that!

Its not particularly difficult or expensive though, but will cause admin burden in the future (i.e. don't do it on a whim). You are based in Leeds, yes? I will put my thinking cap on, as there may still be options which could support in business start up - particularly through universities/HEIs - often funded by the regional development agency
