Yep, thats right. If you have children who were born before 2002/3 or in those years, have you had your money back yet from the Revenue?
If you filled in tax returns in these years did you tick the right box and get it allocated to you?
If you were working, did your tax code change to allow for your refund?
In 2003 the new Child Tax Credit was introduced. Prior to that if you had children the Revenue merely picked people at random, (yes it was that silly!) and gave them back the child tax they were due for that year.
And did you realise that this refund is time limited, ie come 31 January 2009, you won't be able to get it back?
Head to www.avsagencies.com and click on the child tax tab and read for more details, or email via the address on the site and see if you can have some spare money for Christmas ...

It's ok David ... I won't tell anyone about your silly moment to me!!
I recently used my own company and staff and literally within 5 days of sending off the forms to HMRC had a nice letter back from them with a cheque. So having tried the service myself, I can say it works!

Was there an earnings cap on this? That was my best year financially and I imagine I earnt over the limit that enabled you to claim.

I have the same question - was there any income limit..that was my last year in a proper job, and hence a proper salary!!!

For every £15 earned over the Higher Tax threshold the allowance reduces by £1 so income of £45K+ effectively wipes out the allowance.

In 2002/03 the threshold was lower......and if you had a company car, you were paying 40% at about £32k...never mind!!!!

These are the guidelines we set out, so if you meet the criteria below, you can claim.
• you have at least 1 child that was under 16 at the start of the 01/02 or 02/03 tax year; and
• they lived with you for at least part of that tax year; and this applies whether
• you are married, co-habiting with your partner or a single parent, and
• you have not yet received the tax relief (check your 02/03 tax code if starts with a 6 or a 7 and end with the letter ‘H’ then you probably have had the money); and that
• either you or your partner earned over £6,000 in the 2002/03 tax year.
And Otis, we are talking about the old child tax allowance, nothing to do with the present child tax credits.

Correct Paul ... newer parents seem to get confused with this allowance that was given to some for two years prior to the introduction of the Child Tax Credit system.
If you want to know if you qualify for it, its simply a case of either emailing the addy on the site or just simply pm me your email addy and I will get the forms to you. Fill these in, and we simply give your completed information the once over, and having years of experience in dealing with these situations, we can tell immediately if you qualify. If you do, we sort it out for you and if you don't we tell you but don't charge you, so in effect, you have nothing to loose!
