BUSINESS 4NETWORKING [Missing: Motivation!]

When something "knocks" you and you lose your motivation can be such a nightmare! Your day goes slow and you kind of feel like your hitting your head against the wall when you realise it's only 14:37 when it should be 16:47!

I'm sure we've all been here. I have in the past and I'm here again now - until I land back on my feet, so to speak!

What do you do to get back on track?

Lifes to short! I see every knock as feedback, if you dont change you stagnate.

Sometimes punching the boss makes you feel good! Although not recommended unless you like bread and water!

Loss of motivation is something everyone experiences.  It may be just an hour or so, or much much longer.

Step one is to notice it -so you are already on the road to picking up the pieces.

You will get loads of advice on motivation.  A lot of it is valid, not all relevant all the time.

There are a number of sources of it. Best source - yourself. Hardest to sustain sometimes, but the best, because others cannot ultimately rob you of it.  Whether its a goal (short term initially), a chance for recognition, or just sheer determination to prove you are good it can really work.  For this, I go for a walk and get my head straight, or sit down and remind myself what I am trying to achieve, and why.

Other people - missing from your work at the moment!  But everyone at 4N wants you to be posting in a week or two saying this redundancy business was the best thing that ever happened, because it was the start of something good.

Circumstances - again, missing when you are getting made redundant a bit!  I avoid making my sense of motivation too dependant on circumstances.  Stuff happens too often

You CAN win this chapter of your life.  Go for it..big time..And these are not just words.  They are the best advice i ever had. Go get it......

Hi Miss Fox,

Lack of motivation hits us all at sometime in varying degrees. It happened to me recently when I found I wasn't managing my time properly and I felt there weren't enough hours in the day to finish everything - so I just didn't bother.

It can become a vicious cycle so it's important to break it as soon as you notice it happening.

Finding out why you are lacking motivation is the key - otherwise you won't know what needs fixing.

Some people are in the wrong job, having troubles at home with family or friends or maybe you're just having a low patch as winter approaches - hopefully you have someone you can talk to about your issues - that always help me get my perspective back.

Kim

Turn up the volume on some good rythm. Take a look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself you are the greatest. Then get up and take some positive action.

Smile and the world smiles with you.

You know that the more you talk and think about not being motivated, the worse you get. So change your habits and think POSITIVE.

I'm a governor at Olchfa school in Swansea. Do you think Ellie Simmonds, one of our pupils gets demotivated?

Teenager Eleanor Simmonds became Great Britain's youngest ever individual Paralympic gold medallist while Dave Roberts won his eighth swimming title.

The 13-year-old Simmonds produced a sensational swim to shock her rivals in her 100m final at the Water Cube.

"I didn't believe I would be able to do that, " said Simmonds, who was born with achondroplasia, or dwarfism.

Lost my motivation on Wednesday too, unfortunately still working for someone else involves appraisal time.  One opinion of you from someone who doesn't know you affecting your whole career, so many inaccuracies in it, going to challenge it for the first time in my career but another part of me cba'd.

What I'd give to work for myself!  Time to set that goal.  Did some real world stuff yesterday, took my two year old to the see the Sharks at the Aquarium for his birthday - back to work today, different focus.

Stepping out of the situation even for a while helps a whole lot and gives you a different view

Absolutely Nige, it really does and if there's nothing holding you back from stepping in to the self employed wold, why wait! Luckily, I scored well on my PDR, but it's very frustrating when someone criticises you and has absolutely no idea what you actually do so has no real right to comment!!

Chin up, the people of 4N love ya!

Liz is right Nigel, what's stopping you from getting out of your job and working for yourself??

If that's your future plan, then sooner rather than later imo, otherwise it's dead time whilst your working!

Crossing that line of being "safe" is the hardest line ever, however it's the fear factor afterwards that you could be moneyless that'll make you work your ass off to get whatever you want to do off the ground!

Don't work for money, make money work for you :)

Debt, huge debt and the related monthly payments.....I know it only an excuse/self imposed barrier, but for me it's a good one right now.  Two years and I'll be sorted...then it's a different ball game.

Nige don't get me wrong, I'm in a similar boat and I haven't myself made the jump but what Otis says is right too, when you know where you want to be and something holds you back, it does just feel like wasted time! 2009 will be the year I can make the move, fingers crossed! xxx
