Regular 4Ners may recall my embargo of listenign to the Today program.
Well today i wanted to get the inside scoop on the VAT changes.. so at 5:55 I clocked where i was head space wise at and turned on at 6am, off at 630am..
ITS ALL DOOM AND GLOOM... i felt really down by 620
As a small business, please i urge you stay clear from the media.. its really not helpful.
By 820 i'd come alive again.. but it really does knock you out of your rail.

I have my routine and listen to stuff which gets me in the right mood. I have CD's in the car of gigs that I've been to, doesn't impart any information or knowledge to me, just wakes me up and puts me in the right state for my day.
Then some loud Manc 'phones me.

I'm normally found singing along to my music in my car at stupidly high volumes while on my way to breakfast meetings... rock and roll!

Oh I have an inbuilt filter that gets used to reading about this wonderful recession and credit crunch, I just switch my work head on, and figure out which sucker, erm sorry client, is going to get the benefits of Le Gib (My marketing man!) and what and how we are going to turn it to our advantage!
A new challenge every day ... whats with this doom and gloom?? It means more business surely??

We haven't had a newspaper or watched the news for about a year. I glance at the BBC News website once a day and sometimes catch the Radio 4 news before the Archers while I wash up after dinner. I avoid the doom and gloom, I have no idea who was in Big Brother this year or who Paris Hilton is dating - my brain is refreshing empty of pointless trivia or things to worry unnecessarily about.

I stopped listening to the Today programme a log time ago, as I felt it just wasnt giving me useful objective information.
Let the interviewee at least answer the question, I shouted at my radio. But then I realised they couldnt hear, so I turned it off.
So..well, I dont even listen to the news before the Archers if I can help it!!......

If you can't quite stomach the Today programme but want to hear classy radio then may I suggest PM on Radio 4 at 5pm - Hosted by the brilliant Eddie Mair - he is a breath of fresh air and the best broadcaster on radio or TV at the moment. He takes everything with a healthy pinch of salt and gives politicians a fair crack of the whip without letting them get away with much. Excellent sense of humour and a healthy disregard for radio convention. As an old BBC lag myself, I really respect Eddie for the way he seems to rise effortlessly above the news media mire. Catch him if you can before he gets promoted.
