I use a multifunction printer/copier/scanner/fax.  2 years ago I replaced my HP officejet 7130 with a supposedly equivalent Dell model which was useless so I went back to using the old HP.  Now I really need a new one.  I've seen good deals on HP Deskjet C4580 and and HP Officejet 6310.  Any further suggestions or advice would be very helpful.

I went for multipurpose laser - Canon MF8180C - bigger investment, great quality, cost per page lower than inkjet and most other laser brands

I have the F4180 multipurpose at home, it's cheap and perfectly adequate for general use.  I did have a canon multipurpose inkjet but I threw is away when the ink ran out because it wasn't a friendly as the HP, suffered from paper jams and the replacement ink was more expensive than the new HP printer which came with ink.  None have the fax thing though, I use outlook for faxing.

The HP's I have come across over the past 12 months have been nothing like the quality you would expect from HP.
As Graham said the Canons are cheaper to run, great quality but sometimes a bit pricey initially, just shop around!

This is a good site for independent reviews, just put in the model numbers and have a read.

I don't do that much printing so couldn't justify that kind of expense.  Just need something with 'all the functions'.

Hello Bev

Best black printer i have ever purchased - Hewlett Packard Laserjet 4000T - If your looking for a super office printer with low running costs then this is the one - you can buy 3 cartridges for about £80 and they last ages i.e. 8 months each - all the other pretenders are expensive to either buy or repalce cartridges

I need to print Wedding Stationery and the print has to be REALLY good and not bleed at all.

I have a Canon MP610 - excellent print quality, cheap to replace the inks and the black is double the size, it will also take quite heavy duty card. I cannot use a laser printer as the card and paper is textured and will not hold the print.

I also have a Brother HL2030 for bog standard quantity black printing (invoices & letters)

Hi

I asked Cartridge World which printers would take recycled cartriges and they said Canon so i too threw away my cheap Dell (but with expensive cartriges) and shopped around and found a Canon scanner/printer/copier for under £100 from PC World (I was in a hurry) and have got this Canon MP 610 which is great!

Do check the cost of replacement cartriges first as I've heard HP ones are v expensive compared to Canon!

Good luck

I popped into Robert Dyas yesterday and noticed that they had an HP all-in-one for £29.99 and a Canon for £49.99. Don't know if the kit is any good, but the prices are.

If you're thinking Canon use their ebay store.
It's an outlet for their returns.
I've bought a few things from there and the most 'damage' was the instruction manual not being in plastic or the box having a crease in it.

Bev,

Contact Steve Noble of www.wstore.co.uk dealing with B2B stuff.  Fellow 4N'er and lives in Yatton, so your neck of the woods!

Steve sorted me out recently with a colour laser printer, for about the price of a B&W one, so I'm well happy.

Usual rules apply - if it works, I'll take all the credit.  If not, worth a call...

Good Luck!
