Once you go Mac, you never go back!

I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro, best computing decisions I've ever made. And contrary to what people may think, I was a PCboy for years....got bored of them always breaking, made the leap (after hating Apple), now am a complete convert.

If you need any help or advice with this marvellous potential transition, just give me a bell!

Get a decent PC.. i got Vista on an uber PC and never have any problems with it.

Never trust a computer that needs just one mouse button.

I would whole hertedly recommend you buy a mac but CAD apps usually take a lot of resources and using them through parallels/ bootcamp can cause a bit of sluggishness - depending on the intensity required.

Get a mac BUT get as much RAM as it can hold (and don't get Apple RAM, buy it from Crucial - it'll be at least half the price.)

In fear of getting shot down...

I seem to be the only person in the world who doesn't mind whether it's a mac or pc!

I used to use a mac at work and a pc at home till I started my business and then now just use a pc...(wish my pc looked a bit nicer though!)

Hey Tamsin - I'm with you.  Here at BizView we use both.  Office currently has 3 PCs and 3 Macs of various ages and specs.  All our video and audio editing done on Macs (Final Cut and ProTools) for which they are superb and unbeatable by the PC.  However, we do all our office stuff / website updating etc on PCs.  They're all networked and happily talk to one another - horses for courses I guess.

I've used Mac's for over 11 years, I've needed to for what I do. Over that time I've never had a problem with them not working etc etc, so many people seem to have problems with their PC, there is a whole huge industry built around fixing PC's.

Yes Mac's are more expensive but they are a joy to use and they (he touches his head) rarely have problems/need fixing.

Stands to reason there is a much larger industry to fix pc's as i believe the ratio is something like 90% PC's to 10% Apples?

Ok fair point, that does make sense, but my main point (IMO) is that Mac's are more stable and less likely to play up.

In the past I've worked at two different design agencies for a total of 5 years -  one agency must of had about 8-10 macs the other 5-6. I can't remember us ever having to get anyone in to fix them and they were used heavily, 10-11 hours a day 5-6 days a week, depending on work load.

No I'm not sponsored by Apple! ... I wish!

I think it depends a lot on your own situation as well.  I have a massive distaste for Microsoft and the way it single-handedly wastes thousands if not millions of hours on small bugs that should have been fixed a long time ago (double margin and z level select boxes in IE6 to name just a couple).  But nearly all of my customers use PC's and windows so the extra work of using a Mac is just (unfortunately) not to my benefit.

My brother has a Mac though and loves it, he uses it for his music which, along with graphics and design is what I'm told that Macs really stand out in the crowd for.  It might be however that help is harder to find for the Macs on the internet, I know that if I ever have a problem on my PC I can normally fix it in a couple of minutes because of the number of forums out there.

So there you go, one of those lovely answers that probably doesn't give an answer either way :)
