I moved to the USA when I was 19 and literally fell into computing. This was before the Internet WAS the Internet; but I soon became hooked and spent my 24/7 soaking up everything that I could discover.
At the time, there were no regular courses in
Web Development, so I enrolled at the University of 'Get On With It' and totally immersed myself in learning everything that I could about computers and the Internet. I'm still learning too… which keeps me up to date with all the latest advances in IT and Internet technology.
After returning to the UK, I developed the first websites for companies like Reed Personnel Services, Regus, Taylor Woodrow and many others. This was a steep learning curve, we didn't have half the technology we do now, but with a combination of vision and graft, giant steps were made.
Buoyed by the amazing success of the Internet's applications for business, I set up my own web development company, originating hundreds of first time websites and providing companies across the UK.
When the Dotcom bubble burst, we rode out the storm, surviving and evolving into
Monkey Design House, the Internet consultancy company that I run today.
When I'm not spending time with Jo and the kids, I like photography, music and films. I think my Top FIVE films of all time are:
-
The Pursuit of Happyness
-
The Illusionist
-
The Lakehouse
-
Kinky Boots (great British film!)
-
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the original one!)
