Something to think about when using Twitter for your business.
Building Your Social Media Property Value
To be successful on Twitter you must build trust and credibility with your followers. That doesn’t always equate to the number of followers, mentions or re-tweets that you get either. It is however about being seen as a source of information, developing a reputation as an expert and being trusted and reliable. This will eventually lead to you having valuable social media property value.
You won’t build that valuable real estate by constantly sending out sales or marketing messages either. Instead you need to engage people in a natural way, ask questions, be sociable and open, be interesting and useful. If you don’t then you could actually see a fall in your property value.
Don’t get obsessed by the number of people you are following or who are following you either. That doesn’t add any value to your property if those followers are not interested in your message. What does increase your property value is if those followers are interested in hearing you, respect and like you and are happy to re-tweet your tweets.
Track & Measure Results
This is easy to do and important for any SME to do. If you are measuring sales then you can use a tracking code or voucher code that is specific to Twitter. If its about saving money then you just track how many issues were resolved or leads gathered through twitter compared to your traditional method. If you are offering customer support through Twitter then look to see if there is any reduction in your call volumes.
These things are easy to implement so just make sure you do. You shouldn’t be doing any marketing activity including social media without measuring your returns.
