Stef: many thanks for this thread. Some really sound advice. I'm getting much more serious about this area now, and definitely need to start getting further afield with my 4sights/workshops etc. So I'll be referring to your initial post a lot!

Gavin: 'you can't be a prophet in your own town' is a phrase I've heard from quite a few musicians.

Jeremy: yes! Would greatly appreciate being kept in the loop with any developments on that plan. :-)

Hey Stef, quote:  "I just need to work out how to sexy it up a bit" - I believe a certain Tony Blair has practice at this and he's just lost a job, perhaps you could get some assistance!

If you was bobbins at 4Sights you'd never have got these. It takes time to be competent

I was bobbins at first . One of the benefits of 4Sights is that it's a really safe environment to practice. I get the chance to do hundreds of rehearsals in front of a live audience. That's really powerful.

This stuff works. Five years after going on the road with a 4Sight tour I've done the biggest gig of my career so far today, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants - Members in Practice 30th Annual Conference. I can trace a direct line back to 4Sighting - the lead into this gig came from two 4Ners.

Just an update. This year so far I've already spoken at Cap Gemini in London Holborn and, just doing some planning last night realised I have 14 gigs already booked for the rest of this year.

I promise this stuff works. It is work though. You do need to be out there. You do need to put in the miles and 4Sight all over the place. I've been in 4N for over seven years now and 4Sighted from sometime in my first year. I've done the regional small hall business shows where only four people came to see me (and less, recently) and you have to do all of this stuff.

Here is where I'm at for the rest of this year. It is possible and simple to use 4N to build your reputation, credibility and ability as a speaker. I was the guy who was too nervous to read the script the first time I was a Group Leader.

Forthcoming speaking gigs – where to catch me during 2015

Chris Brogan was paid £25,000 to speak for Thomson Reuters.

To get there all he had to do was blog his ass off for years and years...

That's my plan. One talk per year, sit back, feet up.

#easystreet :P

Seriously, great post Stef - stuff like this belongs on a dedicated 4N blog though, with visual imagery, useful outbound links, maybe an infographic, a link to your G+ and other social profiles, some example videos and a big picture of your good self.

Interestingly, getting your voice out there is the best way to earn speaking gigs...most of the big names I've ever come across have built and maintained their presence via content marketing + free/smaller speaking gigs i.e. Jeff Bullas, Pat Flynn, Gary V.

Chris Brogan start ed blogging when it was still called journaling :(

Stef - one if the things I need to shamelessly pick your brains about is hike you turned from a nervous wreck in Whitney to today's confident speaker (i think I can guess but I want confirmation).

I've been carrying my 4sight far and wide recently (Gordano today, Newport and Stow on the Wold (non-4N next week)) and I can feel the confidence growing. Good stuff.

Quote: Fantastic points Stef, agree with Jeremy and everyone really great points. Thanks for reposting this on FB (how I found it) and Jeremy I like your idea of the group as well as car sharing & room sharing, if you're still following the post!

Rachael - Jeremy's group is going to be held at the Grosvenor G Casino (after the 4N meeting).  Not sure what date the first one will be held... maybe August or September.  Every month, we will all read the same business/marketing book (like a sort of book club), and someone will do a 4sight about it.  Then, after the 4sight, we will brainstorm how the book can be applied to each other's businesses.

If you're interested, I'll keep you informed.  I was telling one of your GLs about it (Daniel Bennett), and he seemed really interested as well.

That is really really good stuff, maybe we can get a serious group of people together, I have been thinking about a speaking training group locally up here. Why not for all the serious ones? lets give real feedback for those who are going to do this. and I don't mean a kicking I mean helpful useful feedback that improves presentations and style. I would be up for this.

Also a bit fo car sharing and room sharing is not going to hurt our cost base either.

thoughts?

Jeremy

Ace thread - I have real self confidence issues so the thought of doing a single 4sight is massive ( but it's on my list )
