Why I’m good at what I do…

I love numbers and have ever since I was a wee lad growing up in Scotland. I always got numbers and understood how changing one number could impact other numbers just like they do everyday in business. That's why I love being an accountant who works with businesses and individuals helping them understand their numbers, so that they can make better decisions about their future.

When I left school I went to the University of St Andrews where I gained a degree in Management Science and met my wife Sarah. Meeting Sarah is what brought me down to the Essex / Cambridge border area, as that is where she came from. Having moved “down south” I worked in London full time, whilst also studying for my CIMA accounting qualification. CIMA gave me a great insight, and grounding, in to not only how the numbers in business work, but what drives those numbers and how businesses work as a whole.

My 20 year career has seen me start work as a temp in the accounting department for Capita Plc to being the Finance Director of a Marketing Agency turning over £10m+. Along the way I've worked for a company that laid, maintained and engineered how to lay fibre optic cables across the oceans of the world, another that created and installed a floral elephant for Prince William's birthday, and a company where the Chairman met the President of Afghanistan in his home country 2 days before the parliament was bombed. My work has taken me around the UK, over to Europe, Canada and the US, and also to Africa for a day!

I have worked for large and small companies but I always got the most satisfaction out of working in small companies as you get to see the whole picture rather than just your bit. That is why I set up Weir Associates so I could work with small companies and individuals to help them better understand their businesses, and to make them more efficient and profitable through the latest cloud solutions available to them.

So I can find out more about you why not ask me for a 1-2-1 and if you want to find out more about me why not ask me how I ended up playing and staying with a future Open Golf Champion & Ryder Cup player.

  • Iain gives a great talk on the power of pricing, why it's important and how we as businesses can improve in this area. If this is what he brings to the table as your Accountant, I am sure clients not be disappointed! Thanks Iain!
  • Iain gave a great talk on pricing strategies and showed his vast knowledge in a helpful and understandable way - everything he talked about I instantly implemented and can already see the benefits after only a few days!
  • After listening to Iain talk about pricing in a easy to understand way, I increased my charge to my clients to end with the number '7' which Iain had promoted as being a good number to use. This increase has had no adverse effect on repeat business. Increased profit margin - Simple, but effective.
