Why I’m good at what I do…


As an HR professional with 37 years of experience I decided to leave corporate life and set up my own business serving SMEs in South Surrey.  I have worked in HR since 1980 in a variety of roles in industries including motors, pharmaceuticals, insurance, construction and recruitment.  Seeking a greater work life balance I decided to give up the corporate life, along with the commute by train, and set up in business on my own, in the Guildford and South Surrey area.

The HR Dept Guildford, Cranleigh, Godalming and Haslemere will provide outsourced HR advice and support to small businesses which have an HR requirement but do not want or need full-time support in-house.  With high business confidence in the SME community in the area, the offering of director level support at an affordable price will be something small businesses will find attractive.

I am enjoying the challenge of running and developing my own business, including the networking and contact-building which has become a daily part of my new working life.

I will be working with my wife Diane, who comes from the area and she will provide administrative, finance, IT and back office support.  We have lived in the area for 26 years and are former members of Guildford and Woking Junior Chamber.

It’s demanding, getting out there and promoting my knowledge and expertise in a way that I’ve not done for a while, but I’m determined to make it work and I believe that the business model is appropriate here.

The HR Dept is a national franchise company based in Bristol which has a network of over 60 licensees working in 80+ territories around the UK and Ireland, providing the full breadth of HR services from problem solving, recruitment, employee relations and employee benefits to the admin of the policies and documents which SMEs need.
