I help people to become visible, by providing them with professional business head-shots for their websites and social media. I particularly love working with people who don't like being in front of the camera, which in fact, is most of us! During my photo shoots, I take time to help people relax and feel comfortable so that I can capture their personality on camera. I work with companies to photograph their teams, so that there is consistency in the images that populate their website. Generally I have a relationship where, when new employees join the company, I go in to photograph them too.
Alongside my photography, I also lead workshops, under the banner of "Presenting Brand You", to support people to understand how to present themselves as their brand, and how to pose well for the camera.
Lis McDermott is a photographer and author. She has been a photographer since 2008, after leaving her job in Music Education, where she had previously worked for 34 years. Latterly, she was the Music Adviser for Wiltshire schools, and an OFSTED Inspector.
She has photographed over 90 weddings, many families and portrait photo-shoots, and baby photography. She is now focusing on business photography. In her time as a photographer, she has had her work appear in several magazines, and books. She has previously photographed for the Meningitis Trust, Roland UK (education), Energy Solutions conference, and the Order of St John Care Trust, where she was lucky enough to photograph HRH the Prince of Wales opening a care home. She has also photographed Swindon College Graduation and images for their brochure for several years.
The people skills and training skills, gained whilst working in education have been a perfect fit for her work as a photographer and workshop leader.
In 2014, she wrote and published "Headshot Diva", why your business profile affects your bottom line, which gives you tips for good business head-shots, and also talks about the things people get wrong. She has also published two other books: a book of short stories "Changing Lives", an autobiography, "Mixed Feelings" and a book of poetry, "A Tilted View".
I love meeting people, which is why I love networking. I think everyone has an interesting face, and genuinely believe at the point I am photographing them, they are the most beautiful person in the world! Having trained as a musician, I continue to play, and accompany a small singing group for concerts. I enjoy writing, and want to continue to produce books of fiction, so hope to develop my skills further. Both my husband and I love music, and spend hours listening to, and talk about it. We also love the cinema and go as often as we can. As we are child-free, we also love to travel.
Lis not only has a fantastic 4Sight that really made me think how to present myself, she has also helped me to grow my book. Thanks to her help and keen eye, I have been able to complete more than I thought I would have so far!
Lis gave a very thought provoking 4Sight at Ledbury a few weeks ago. 'You don't know me'. Lis made us aware of how we all make judgements on face value. This could mean that we miss opportunities to connect and find out more, which could in turn be detrimental to our business. Food for thought!
